New Police recruits get warm welcome
paraded before the press.
The ten British officers, who together have 107 years service between them, met with Permanent Secretary of Labour, Home Affairs and Public Safety Robert Horton, and Shadow Minister Michael Dunkley, as well as other dignitaries and the media.
And afterwards, they gathered in the sunshine on the recreation ground at Police headquarters in Prospect where Inspector Stuart Crockwell and Police Constable Jasmine Saltus tended to the barbecue.
Acting Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith welcomed the officers and said both they and Bermuda would benefit from their three-year stay on the Island.
He said: "They are offering a professional service to us. I think they can benefit from what our country can offer them.
"We look forward to them joining the Bermuda Police force family.'' New recruit David Wood, who has come from Greater Manchester Police, has been an officer for eight years and has been working in fraud investigations.
He said: "I am very glad to be here and Bermuda seems like a very beautiful, friendly place. "This was a chance to do something different and it will stop me from becoming narrow-minded. I think it is a great opportunity.''
