Newspaper gives boost to Island

The December 5 edition of the Minneapolis Star Tribune features an article by writer Enid Nemy which looks at the history of the Island, other background information and what it has to offer visitors.
Places to stay receiving a special mention in the article were Rosedon, The Harmony Club, Sky Top, Aunt Nea's Inn and the Elbow Beach Hotel.
Restaurants getting a plus included Elbow's Seahorse Grill, La Coquille, the Frog and Onion, Monty's and Mrs. T's Victorian Tearoom.
Sightseers are directed to Tim and Mary Anne Rogers' personalised eco-tours, the Bank of Bermuda's coin collection at its Front Street branch, The Masterworks Foundation's self-guided Ogden Pleissner Art Tour, and the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
And shoppers are told that the Island is a shopper's paradise with the best buys in liquor, English china, knits and linens.

RAMADAN BEGINS CHU Ramadan begins The Island's Moslems have begun their commemoration of the holy month of Ramadan with a daytime fast beginning this morning.
The local faithful will maintain the fast during the daylight hours for the next month.
They are also expected to refrain from such things as smoking and arguing and should reflect on the revelation of the Holy Koran, Islam's holiest book, to the Prophet Mohammed some 1,400 years ago.
Ramadan's duration is based on a lunar calendar and varies depending on sightings of the moon.
Hundreds of people from across the Island and expatriate workers will take part in the commemoration.
NIGHT OUT GOES WRONG CRM Night out goes wrong A night out with friends turned sour for one man when his briefcase was taken after he left it unattended until the following day.
The man told Police that he was at The Bermuda Sailor's Home in Pembroke with some acquaintances when he left his briefcase on the floor there.
When he returned the following day to retrieve it, the case was gone along with the mobile phone, cellular charger, contact lenses, cash and an umbrella it contained.
Central CID were investigating, but there were no suspects at press time.
HOME BURGLED CRM Home burgled Police are investigating a break-in at a Rings Court, Warwick residence.
The female complainant said someone entered her living room through an open door on Wednesday between 6 p.m. and 6.15 p.m. and took a black canvas bag.
The bag was later found outside on the lawn with its contents scattered around the surrounding area. Nothing appeared to be stolen.
