discipline and self-esteem to reduce youth violence, according to the National Liberal Party.

The call comes in the wake of violent incidents which have prompted Government to bring in security guards at all secondary schools.

But NLP leaders believe the community must play the lead role in helping to reduce youth violence -- and Government's role should be financial support.

"We are very concerned about the magnitude of youth violence as highlighted in our schools in recent months,'' said Party chairman Charles Jeffers.

"The NLP believes that solutions are to be found in the cooperation of parents, school, churches, community organisations and business. Government should play a financial and supporting role,'' he added.

Security guards have already been placed at Warwick Secondary, Northlands and the Whitney Institute.

Last Friday Education Minister Jerome Dill announced that guards will also be stationed at Sandys and St. George's secondary schools as well Berkeley Institute from today on a trial basis.

Yesterday the NLP said "boot camps'' could be set up by churches or community groups for young people already causing problems.

"Young people can be brought to boot camps to be disciplined, to work with appropriate professionals on self-esteem, to be educated in an alternative setting to schools and where volunteer mentors can be provided.''
