And it has been accused of turning its back on tourism in its bid to bolster offshore business.

The blistering attack was launched by the National Liberal Party.

NLP spokesman Mr. Geoff Parker said Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul had lost the confidence of the Country.

"The people of Bermuda must not be excluded from knowing all the true facts.

"In order to build confidence the people must be properly informed, not deceived.'' Mr. Parker called on Government to produce up to date "consolidated financial statements'' to the House of Assembly before Christmas.

"Failure to do so will send a negative message to the people of Bermuda that all is not well, as they already fear, and that Government has lost its way and should resign.'' Mr. Parker claimed Dr. Saul had "lost the confidence and trust of the average person through his inability to provide a full accounting of the true economic picture of our Island's finances.'' He urged Government to "unshackle'' the Government auditor and allow him to report his findings to Parliament.

Mr. Parker said Ministers continued to paint a rosy picture, accepting no blame for job losses among low and middle income workers.

"The very fact that these jobs were lost by the UBP Government's deliberate neglect of tourism since 1989 in its pursuit of offshore business should send warning bells to the man in the street,'' he said.
