Operation Cleensweep wins praise in Senate
senators.
Government Senate Leader Gary Pitman commended Police commissioner Colin Coxall and everyone involved in the undercover operation.
Sen. Pitman pointed out the danger and the massive planning involved in the operation which involved members from the US Drug Enforcement Agency.
And he said covert operation was an example of "some of the action we've been calling for'' in the war against drugs.
Opposition Senate Leader Milton Scott also praised the operation but pointed out that work still needed to be done.
"By Tuesday,'' he said, "some of them (drug dealers) were back. And now they have just gone further into the neighbourhoods. There will be a need for further intervention.'' Independent Sen. Walwyn Hughes and PLP Sen. Neletha Butterfield called the operation was a positive step.
But Sen. Butterfield added that Police need to focus on the suppliers and financiers of the drug deals.
And senators congratulated Senate President Albert Jackson on moving into his new office.
Sen. Scott said the facility will provide the position of Senate President with "the dignity that it should have''.
Sen. Jackson said he was grateful for the new office space.
