The Council Partners Charitable Trust will now give financial support to two of the Family Learning Centre's programmes, said Partners chairman Brian Duperreault.

Both the Alternative Activities programme and the Summer Activities programme give children from ages five to 12 the skills needed to prevent later alcohol, cigarette or drug experimentation.

According to a 1994 National Drug Commission survey, 30 percent of high school students drank alcohol regularly, and 15 percent were regular users of marijuana.

Executive Director for the Family Learning Centre, Martha Dismont, said: "This alliance and the funding provided by the Council Partners Charitable Trust forms the foundation for a more integrated relationship between the Trust's member agencies and the Centre in our shared efforts to prevent all manner of drug abuse in Bermuda.''
