Pet passport scheme still not cleared for take-off

Although Bermuda was officially recognised as one of the countries participating in the passports for pets scheme on January 31, the facilities at Gatwick airport for animals to be processed from direct flights are not yet in place.

The divisions of British Airways that are involved in implementing the scheme meet on a regular basis to determine operational requirements, and they hope that Bermuda and British Airways will be involved in the pilot scheme early this year.

WOMAN FINED FOR CAUSING COLLISION CTS Woman fined for causing collision A man had his leg broken in five places after a female motorcyclist crashed into him after being distracted by her cell phone. Magistrates' Court heard yesterday that Wendy Berlinda Dill, of Horseshoe Road, Southampton, was riding along Front Street in Hamilton on November 28, when she picked up her cell phone and lost control of her bike.

She crashed into another motorcyclist, causing him to break his leg in five places.

Prosecutor Cindy Clark told the court that Dill had been distracted by her cell phone. And she said as a result, the other driver had suffered bad injuries to one of his legs and will be immobilised until next month.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner fined Dill $300 for driving without due care and attention, and $600 for another charge of speeding on a separate occasion.

DEVONSHIRE MAN ON SEX ASSULT CHARGE CTS Devonshire man on sex assault charge A 58-year-old man appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Pembroke.

The Devonshire man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty to the assault on the 25-year-old on September 19, and opted for a trial to be held in Magistrates' Court, as opposed to Supreme Court.

He was released on $1,000 bail and ordered to reappear before the court on April 20.

POLICE IN SEARCH FOR MISSING TEEN POL Police in search for missing teen Police are asking anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of Okeisha Clarke to contact Community and Juvenile Services at 299-4477 or 299-4307.

Okeisha is 14 years old and is brown-skinned with brown eyes and dark hair often worn in braids.

She has been missing from her residence since last Friday.

PERMISSION GRANTED FOR NEW ATM PLN Permission granted for new ATM The Bank of Butterfield has received permission to build a new Drive-in-Automated Teller Machine Centre at the Modern Mart on South Shore in Paget.

Included in the plan is the creation of an additional seven spaces for vehicular parking and a new access onto South Road and St. Michael's Roads.

The bank could not give details of the development yesterday.

AIRCRAFT FORCED TO DIVERT FLY HTH Aircraft forced to divert A Cuba-bound Britannia Airways flight from Germany was forced to land in Bermuda after a medical emergency arose en route.

A 20-year-old female passenger was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital around 10.15 p.m. on Wednesday after the plane was met by Police, Customs, Fire Services and hospital staff.

Hospital officials said the woman is now in a stable condition.
