immediate measures to revive tourism and a long-term security plan for exempt companies.

Deputy Opposition Leader Eugene Cox announced a Progressive Labour Party Government would implement a "20-20 Vision'' policy for exempt firms.

He said the party would extend exempt companies' protection for an extra four years, until 2020.

And he said new initiatives would breathe new life into Bermuda's flagging tourism industry.

The tourism "rescue mission'' would forge new partnerships with other industries and develop a National Tourism Plan, said Mr. Cox.

The PLP's Deputy Leader also promised accountability and "transparent and business friendly government''.

"Such new standards will be critical if Bermuda is to eliminate the acknowledged squandermania of the outgoing administration,'' said Mr. Cox.

"For this reason, a Progressive Labour Party Government will strengthen the office of the Government Auditor.

"This will also ensure that public funds are disbursed only when properly authorised and accounted for in accordance with the appropraite Parliamentary processes.'' He also announced the PLP's National Tripartite Commission -- designed to help formulate economic policy and including labour and business leaders -- would develop a National Training Agency.

The agency's main aim would be to educate youngsters aiming for careers in business and to tune them into Bermuda's specific financial needs.

"A PLP Government will be a facilitator and regulator, which will not compete with private business,'' he said.

"The PLP will, however, set out to encourage enlightened corporate policies that will contribute to the empowerment of the Bermudian people, particularly our young people.

Opposition reveals economic gameplan "The PLP will therefore move to stimulate individual asset building through such options as incentives for the establishment of employee stock ownership programmes.

"The ultimate goal of the PLP is an increasingly strong economy growing from strength to greater strength, offering all Bermudians full employment in well-paying sustainable jobs, equal opportunity for ownership of enterprise and a standard of living that all Bermudians should expect and enjoy.'' Mr. Cox was flanked by Opposition Leader Jennifer Smith, Shadow Development and Cultural Affairs Minister Paula Cox and Ms Smith's co-runner in the St.

George's North constituency, Deleay Robinson.

Mr. Robinson said: "A PLP Government would launch a shift towards spending more money on people, who really are a long-term investment.

"That's an investment that will last and come back generation after generation after generation.

"When the PLP comes to power we will all breathe a sigh of relief -- including Bermuda's business community.''
