Police arrest assault suspect
physical assaults that took place at the beginning of last month.
Detectives have been questioning the man about several incidents, including a violent assault on a 54-year-old Pembroke woman in a car park near Princess and Ewing streets at the start of March.
She alleged she was riding her bike in the early hours one Sunday when she was pulled from her moped and beaten.
She also claimed she was dragged from her bike to an empty car park and then seriously sexually assaulted, however, that part of her complaint was later withdrawn.
But Police continued their investigation into the allegation of assault.
And another of the incidents being connected to the suspect is the attack on a 30-year-old man, also from Southampton, on Bermudiana Road, near Front Street, on March 4.
The complainant said he was assaulted by an unknown male as he walked toward Front Street.
He said the attacker came walking toward him and then punched him in the head repeatedly, before demanding money as the victim fell to the ground.
After refusing to provide cash, the victim managed to get to his feet and the assailant fled the area on foot.
The victim then went to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for bruising and cuts to the face, as well as for laceration wounds to the back.
The suspect was arrested and taken into Police custody at Hamilton Police Station earlier this week and interviewed. He has since been released on Police bail, pending further enquiries.
