Police get laser guns
speeding vehicles.
But the Police Service has not introduced a shoot to kill policy for driving offences.
For officers on "shooting sprees'' will not be attacking with bullets but rather with the "pinpoint aiming capability'' of infrared laser beams.
They will possess the technology to catch speeding offenders with their ulta-modern Pro Laser II Infrared Lidar System guns.
These advanced guns will enable officers to target a single speeding vehicle out of a group.
"The Laser guns are superior to the microwaves used by the Radars,'' said a Police spokesman. "Hopefully, this will not cut down just on speeding, but on road accidents and fatalities as well.'' Six officers have already completed the three-day training course and six more are scheduled to begin instruction today.
The course consists of 12 hours theoretical work and a further 12 hours of "hands-on operation'' at different locations around the Island.
