The masked man entered Tony's Fine Foods on North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish and demanded money from the middle aged female employee.
He then approached the cash register and tried to open it but fled empty-handed when the cash register started making a beeping sound. Manager Tony Esposito said: "She tried to open the register but hit the wrong button and it started to make a beeping noise.
"He got startled and ran off. It was unfortunate it had to happen but it's fortunate nobody was hurt. She's a little shaken up.'' Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a man running along North Shore Road at about 8.40 p.m. last Wednesday Witnesses are urged to call DC Don DeSilva or Acting Inspector Ralph Furbert at 293 1940.

The Police vehicles used for the training, which will go on until March 2, can be easily identified by the yellow caution plates located at the front and rear. Members of the public should give way to these vehicles, and exercise the same caution as they would with any Police, fire or ambulance vehicle responding to an emergency.
LOVERS' TIFF ENDS UP IN COURTS CTS Lovers' tiff ends up in courts A Hamilton man chose the wrong place to conduct a lover's tiff when he followed his girlfriend to the Police barracks in St.
George's and ended up swearing at an officer.
Mark Outerbridge, 24, of Twin Lanes, was found hammering at the door of a room at the barracks which his girlfriend had moved to. He then unleashed a tirade of abuse at an officer who had intervened.
Outerbridge admitted committing the offence on December 23 last year but said he had gone with the girl to help her move in but had got into a row when the Policeman followed him outside to make threats.
Outerbridge said he then challenged the officer to fight him and must have sworn sometime during the stand off.
He was fined $250 by Magistrate Ed King for using offensive language.
PRISONER SUES GOVERNMENT CTS Prisoner sues Government A prisoner is suing Government to get a fair hearing on a child support committal to Westgate Correctional Facility by Magistrate Carlisle Greaves.
John Dexter Seaman has filed a writ in the Supreme Court against the Commissioner of Prisons and the Minister of Home Affairs on a decision made by Mr. Greaves on December 7.
Seaman has been in custody since last summer for non-payment of child spport.
