Police issue reminder on rape precautions
in five days last week.
Police said the three incidents were separate, and that in each case the women knew their attackers.
On Friday it was revealed a teenager had become the latest woman to report she was raped this week. The 17-year-old Pembroke resident told Police she was attacked at a home on Happy Valley Road, Pembroke, late on Thursday afternoon.
On Monday a 21-year-old Southampton woman was allegedly raped at midnight in her home, while late on Sunday night a 20-year-old was reportedly attacked as she walked through St. John's churchyard in Pembroke.
A 24-year-old Pembroke man has been arrested in connection with Monday's incident, and detectives expect more arrests.
"Obviously people are alarmed, but we are not suggesting there is a serial rapist,'' said Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale. "As there have been three reported rapes this week it seems more serious, but it could be more of a coincidence.'' However, Police wanted women to take normal precautions when they were alone, he said. Women should not walk on dark streets alone. If living alone they should secure their homes and refuse to open the door to men they did not know.
