A Police spokeswoman said the Telephone Company was working on the problem but had yet to determine the nature of the breakdown.

The problem has not affected the 911 line but Police are asking that people reserve that line for emergency calls only.

Until the main line (295-0011) is repaired, Police are asking that residents in the Western parishes -- Somerset, Southampton and Warwick -- call the Somerset station at 234-1010.

Residents of Smith's, Hamilton Parish, St. George's and St. David's are asked to call the St. George's station at 297-1122.

Central parishes -- Devonshire, Pembroke, Paget -- should direct calls to 299-4539 until the problem is resolved.
