officer at Somerset Cricket Club to come forward.

A spokeswoman said the invesitgation into the stabbing of P.c. Paul Simons was under the supervision of Chief Insp. Carlton Adams in the Major Incident Room.

"Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the events leading up to the stabbing is asked to contact Ch. Insp. Adams on 299-4327,'' she said.

Witnesses can also contact the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline at 1-800-623-8477.

P.c. Simons was intervening in a fight which broke out between rival gangs near the end of the Somerset Trojans/Boulevard first division clash at the West End club.

He received two deep stab wounds in his side and lower torso and had to be carried by colleagues to a Police van before being driven to pick up an ambulance at Barnes Corner.

The officer was initially placed in the intensive care unit at King Edward VII hospital, although at no time were his injuries considered life-threatening.

He was moved to a general ward late on Wednesday afternoon, where his condition was still being described as stable last night.

A hospital spokeswoman said they did not know when he would be well enough to be released.

Meanwhile, two Sandys men in their 20s arrested on Wednesday in connection with the incident were continuing to be questioned last night.
