Princess arrives for three days
to centre around Princess Anne's visit.
The Princess Royal will pay a working visit to Bermuda next week which includes a hectic schedule across the Island for three days.
She is expected to arrive by private plane on Tuesday around 2 p.m. and will leave on October 8. There will be no official welcome at the airport nor is any official send-off planned.
She will reside at Government House, but looks set to spend little more than her nights there as her schedule is very demanding.
Princess Anne will attend a reception and fund-raising dinner at the Bermuda National Gallery, visit the WindReach Trust Riding for the Disabled facility and attend their fund-raising buffet at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, view sailing for the disabled in Hamilton Harbour, visit the new jetty at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, and visit the Bermuda Sailors Home.
She will also have tea with the Mayor of Hamilton, attend the Governor's reception for charity workers and fund-raisers, plant a tree at Government House, visit the town of St. George's and lay a wreath at the War Memorial on King's Square, open Smith's Garden, open Featherbed Alley, view the ducking stool re-enactment, lunch with the Mayor of St. George's aboard the Lady Tamara while cruising in St. George's and St. David's.
Princess Anne will also visit St. John Ambulance Brigade, the Salvation Army Drug Rehabilitation Unit at Harbour Light, the Salvation Army Emergency Housing Complex, receive the Opposition Leader at Government House, attend a Bermuda Regiment Musical Display and the Trafalgar Night dinner at Commissioner's House in Dockyard.
BUEI BOAT PARADE ATTAINS CHARITY STATUS MUS SLG BUEI boat parade attains charity status The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute Christmas Boat Parade in Hamilton Harbour has been designated the Island's newest charity.
And chairman of the parade's organising committee, Ian Coles, said the group was delighted by the announcement.
"We felt we needed to form a more structured organisation to put us on course for an even more successful future,'' he said.
"We now have a formal constitution and bye-laws which will ensure that the founding partners' vision of how the boat parade should be operated will be carried forward into the next Millennium for the benefit of the whole community.'' More than 80 boats are expected to take part in this year's parade, on December 18, which will also feature the Marine and Ports tug Powerful , fireworks and a party in Barr's Bay Park.
The event will be hosted by the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and the parade will start from there at 6.30 p.m. Sponsors include Bacardi, XL, the Ministry of Development, Opportunity and Government Services, HWP Group and Freisenbruch Meyer.
POLICE KEEP WATCH FOR NEWSPAPER THIEF COM Police keep watch for newspaper thief Police plan to keep a close watch on Washington Street in Hamilton after newspapers were stolen from outside a cafe for the second time in ten days.
In the latest incident, a man reported that he was on his way to open the Cafe Acoreano at 6 a.m. on Wednesday when he saw a man load a bundle of newspapers onto a motorcycle and ride off.
Despite giving chase, he could not catch the newspaper thief who escaped in the vicinity of Dundonald Street and Cedar Avenue.
MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT ON DOCTOR CRM HOS Man arrested for assault on doctor A 23-year-old Devonshire man struck a doctor in the Emergency Department of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after hearing that a loved one had died.
The attack occurred on Tuesday evening and the doctor was struck on the jaw, nose and forehead and then kicked.
During the attack a glass pane was shattered and a van parked outside the Emergency Department had a side window broken.
The attacker was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.
The doctor received treatment for bruising to his shoulder, face and hip.
POLICE PROBE SUSPICIOUS FIRE FIR CRM Police probe suspicious fire Police are investigating a suspicious fire which damaged a red Volkswagen van.
The van was parked at the rear side of Arnold's Supermarket in Sandys Parish at 8.15 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire was spotted by a customer who then alerted staff.
The front dashboard area and driver's seat were ablaze, but staff managed to extinguish the flames before the arrival of firefighters.
Heat and fire damage were caused to the dashboard and both seats of the van, while there was smoke damage to the remainder of the vehicle. An estimated cost of the damage was not known yesterday.
