Prinston Alexander Robinson, of Parsons Road, Pembroke, pleaded guilty to entering the Stokes Point Road home and stealing the safe and its contents.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered the probation after hearing the safe and $47,500 of the valuables had been returned.

Police prosecutor, Insp. Peter Duffy said the safe and the jewellery, travellers cheques and other valuables it contained, were taken from the home on January 7.

Robinson pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier court appearance and was granted bail in the sum of $20,000 and one surety. However, he has remained in custody since January 10.

A social inquiry report was ordered and on June 16, an unknown person left $47,500 worth of the stolen jewellery at a Government agency.

The complainant identified all of the items as hers except for one piece.

Insp. Duffy said Robinson had taken officers to where the safe was located, but it was empty and in a condition that was of no use to its owners.

Mr. Francis told Robinson: "I trust that the period that you've spent in custody will have given you some inclination that you wouldn't want to spend any further time in custody.'' Mr. Francis ordered that Robinson repay the balance of the stolen goods, $6,430, to the complainant.

Robinson was represented by Miss Patricia Harvey.
