Road closure extended
through to February 28.
The Ministry of Works and Engineering granted approval to Belco for the extension of the road closure in order "to ensure public safety'' during the final stages of the company's major generation expansion project at it Sepentine Road plant, according the spokeswoman Robin McPhee.
Access to the businesses located on Cemetery Road, including RITEWAY Builders Supply Ltd., Animal and Garden House, Central Filing, and Treecon Ltd., as well as Staples Ltd. on Serpentine Road will continue to be available.
All five businesses have been notified of the extension of the continued closure.
Signposts notifying motorists that Cemetery Road is closed to through traffic will remain posted at either end of the road.
Belco's generation expansion project has involved the construction of two brand new engines on the site of the East Power station.
Ms McPhee said: "This important project will significantly improve and increase our ability to meet the Island's demand for electricity into the next century.'' She also apologised for the inconvenience and thanked the public for its patience and co operation.
