Road re-alignment a safe bet -- DAB

Mr. Nicholas Trollope said the purpose of the change was to make the access of the existing lane much safer by creating a bell mouth entrance with the ability to turn left on to Old Slip Lane when coming out of the entrance. Such a manoeuvre is currently impossible.

"The changes in the position of the road will also make it safer,'' said Mr Trollope.

The Board called for the site to be landscaped, and said: "In order to protect all trees and hedges which are to be retained, no demolition, site clearance or building operations shall commence until protective fencing of a height not less than four feet has been erected.'' The Board also said that within one month of the issuance of a Certificate of Completion, an application for the re-siting of the right-of-way should be submitted to the Board for its consideration.

It added that in order to provide for safe flow of traffic, access details should conform to the requirements of the Bermuda Plan 1992 and should ensure that at the point of access onto the public road, sight lines for a minimum distance of 90 feet be achieved in either direction from a point six feet back from the edge of the carriageway.

The Board also said that in interests of the visual amenity of the neighbourhood, the wall should be faced with Bermuda stone.

Three Queen Street buildings will be joined together in order to create more retail and office space, after the DAB approved an application made by AB Smith Limited and Anthony Goodfellow.
