School gets DAB approval

And yesterday headmaster of the private school, Mr. Keith McPhee, said the rooms which will be located in the school's new music, arts and crafts centre - located between its junior and senior school sections -- is a part of Saltus' preparation for the future.
"We're actually going through the whole school and setting it up for the future,'' he said. "We're not only improving the school since the admission of girls. We're improving it for the benefit of all students.'' The bulk of the work, which includes two new art rooms, two music rooms and a design technology centre where students can work with metals, wood and computers, is expected to be completed by September.
The music phase has already been completed.
Mr. McPhee said the old rooms which are vacated in the school's junior section will allow for more class room space.
The final approval of Saltus' application is subject to the conditions that all work complies with the requirements of the Bermuda Building Code before the issuing of a certificate of completion, and a wall shall be either constructed of Bermuda stone, faced with Bermuda stone or plaster rendered at the time of construction.
The Development Applications Board also specified that the entire site subject of the application should be landscaped within six months of the issuing of a certificate of occupancy.
The DAB also approved the in principle application for Highland Grocerette & Variety on Watlington Road, Devonshire to be converted into a restaurant and coin laundromat.
In giving its approval the board stipulated that all details to be submitted for the building, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Donald McMahon and leased by Mr.
Llewllyn Simmons, should comply with the requirements of the chief fire officer, the chief environmental health officer and the Bermuda Building Code.
The board reserved for final approval all matters relating to design, appearance and landscaping.
The DAB deferred Crawl Gospel Hall's application to build a new church at Bailey's Bay on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish, pending a site visit.
