Senators say well done to student card winner

Sen. Milton Scott (PLP) said 11-year-old James Thompson's Santa Clause drawing was very creative.

"Seldom do we see the accomplishments of young people,'' Sen. Scott said.

He also sent condolences to the family of the late Micky Bassett.

"Mr. Bassett lived in my neighbourhood and he was a plumber who assisted in building many of the houses in Warwick and Southampton,'' Sen. Scott said.

He also sent condolences to the family of the late Harry Fox of St. David's who played a vital role in many young people's lives.

Sen. Yvette Swan (UBP) sent special congratulations to former Chief Justice the Hon. Sir James Astood for his appointment to president of the Court of Appeal. He will replace the Hon. Sir Denys Roberts.

Sen. Gary Pitman (UBP) sent congratulations to recently retired Civil Air Terminal porter Mr. Ronald `Brownie' Brown. He worked at the Airport for 43 years.

Sen. Gerald Simons (UBP) sent congratulations to the Bermuda Philharmonic Society.

Sen. Neletha Butterfield (PLP) also congratulated the young student on his winning card.

And she also sent congratulations to the Under-23 football team for their victory in Jamaica.

Sen. Butterfield asked that a congratulatory note be sent to the Junior Entrepreneurs who set up a small business and donated their monies to the Brangman Home.

Sen. Terry Lister (PLP) sent condolences to the family of Lewis `Junkie' Fubler.

"He was a committed Salvation Army officer and he will be sadly missed by his family and the community.

Sen. Lister also sent congratulations to six students who passed their charted accountant exams. They were Curtis A. Stovell, Michelle B. DeSilva, Lara T.

Hoth, Brian D. Mello, Zelia M. Botelho, and Nancy J. Coelho.

WINNING CARD -- Proud 11-year-old James Thompson of Dellwood Primary school was the winner of a school-wide Christmas card competition this week with his drawing of Santa Claus. Members of the Senate also sent congratulations to Thompson. Progressive Labour Party Senator Milton Scott said: "Seldom do we see the accomplishments of young people.''
