Senior Police officer to begin retirement

After 38 years of serving the community, Superintendent Campbell Simons began his pre-retirement leave from the Bermuda Police last week.His retirement doesn't officially begin until January next year.

After 38 years of serving the community, Superintendent Campbell Simons began his pre-retirement leave from the Bermuda Police last week.

His retirement doesn't officially begin until January next year.

Supt. Simons joined the Police Service in September, 1960 serving in Somerset and Operations.

He was later transferred to the Narcotics Department where he was promoted to Sergeant in December, 1971.

He then moved to CID and later to the uniform Parish Office.

In June, 1981, on promotion to Inspector he moved to Hamilton Police Station and later became the Airport Security Officer.

Promotion to Chief Inspector in August, 1985 saw another move as he took over as officer in charge of St. George's Police Station.

He remained in this position until March, 1991 when he was promoted to Superintendent and was posted to the position of Divisional Commander at Hamilton Police Station.

Unil his leave began, he was serving as Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police.

During his earlier years Mr. Simons was part of the Police Motorcycle Display Team which operated from 1969 to 1971.

He is the recipient of the Colonial Police Medal and has received four commendations, the last of which was in 1978 for information leading to the conviction of a man who murdered a young child.

Supt. Simons has no immediate plans for his retirement but he plans to do a little more fishing.
