Shell to scrap east-end tanks

The Shell Company of Bermuda has received Planning permission to demolish 14 outdated oil vats in St. George's.
"The existing facility is old and does not meet current safety and environmental standards,'' outlined a Development Applications Board document.
"The intent is to re-locate the facility to the main bulk oil plant at Ferry Reach which is removed from the public road and the residential area.'' The above-ground tanks will be replaced by three underground, super-sized reservoirs which "incorporate all the latest safety and environmental protection devices''.
