Shelly Bay Park to be extended
Park to more than 14 acres of open space.
The 1993 National Parks Protected Areas Amendment Notice, presented by Government Sen. Wendell Hollis was hailed as a "significant contribution'' to the people of Hamilton Parish.
Sen. Hollis said under the plan, the old Shelly Bay field or race track along with the existing park will be operate as one.
Improvements -- including the closure of Old Road from Shelly Bay, have already been made to the area, he said.
And residents have shown enthusiasm toward the plan.
"We endorse these regulations,'' Opposition Sen. Ira Philip said.
"We are aware that the realignment of Old Road will be causing some changes in the way residents approach and leave their properties. But apparently it meets with their approval so we have no objections.'' Sen. Philip said the changes will make the area "more peaceful and safer''.
Independent Sen. Norma Astwood said the addition was a significant contribution to the people of Hamilton Parish.
