Ship's Hill case put off

on the Ships's Hill environmental fight.

A last-ditch legal bid by environmentalists to stop the multi-million dollar development of Ship's Hill was adjourned yesterday by a Supreme Court Judge to allow former Environment Minister Ms Gordon time to make out the document.

Save Open Spaces has brought the case against the Minister of the Environment and Bermuda Properties Ltd. which plans to develop the hill, which is on the Marriott's Castle Harbour Resort property in Hamilton Parish.

Puisne Judge Norma Wade-Miller adjourned the case because it was unclear as to what was submitted to the Development Applications Board, and who made the applicationds for Ship's Hill.

SOS lodged an appeal against the decision to allow Bermuda Properties Ltd. to build there. BPL says the development of the townhouse village is vital to the survival of the Castle Habour as a hotel.

SOS fears the $65 million scheme could lead to the loss of endangered marine life in the caves which lie below the site as well as the loss of open space and woodland.

The court case will continue once the Premier has made her affidavit.
