Showdown looming over concerts
stop public concerts from being allowed to play until 3 a.m.
Youth and Sport Minister John Barritt has promised to review a policy which forced all events in public parks to stop at 1 a.m., instead of 3 a.m.
The parks policy, introduced last year, could be repealed after Mr. Barritt praised organisers of a recent protest contest in Spanish Point Park for their "immaculate behaviour''.
He stopped short of saying the 3 a.m. cut-off time would be restored.
But he said: "It is possible that we will compromise and perhaps these concerts could finish at 2 a.m.
"What I can say for sure is that there will be a review and the fact that this concert was so well organised did the protesters' cause no harm whatsoever.'' Mr. Barritt said he wanted "to be fair to young people who enjoy this music, as well as respecting the wishes of local residents''. But a spokesman for Friswells Hill residents said neighbours were angered by noisy gigs at nearby Frog Lane, Devonshire Rec and the National Stadium.
He added: "I'm urging the Minister to leave the cut-off time at 1 a.m. That time was decided by a bi-partisan committee consisting of clubs, churches and the three political parties.
"That is a time which respects everybody's wishes. Our neighbourhood is full of prison officers, hospital workers and all sorts of people making early time.
