make Great Bay Park in St. David's a part of the National Parks scheme.

Environment Minister the Hon. Ann Cartwright DeCouto, who introduced the amendment, said the area would be used for the benefit of all Bermudians, particularly those in the St. David's area.

She noted that under the National Parks Act, information concerning the amendment would be published in the Official Gazette , then once a park draft plan was developed it would be advertised and residents in the area would be contacted and urged to attend meetings.

St. George's South MP Mrs. Grace Bell said the transferring of the park, which is situated between St. David's Liquor store and the junction of Great Bay Road and Lighthouse Hill, was not a contentious issue in the area.

"The residents of St. David's that I have spoken to are quite pleased to see another area of open space,'' she said, "particularly near the water.'' She also said residents would like to see the lighthouse jetty, where St.

Luke's AME held services until the church building was constructed, named Preacher's Wharf.

Mrs. Cartwright DeCouto assured Mrs. Bell that the area would be called Preacher's Wharf when the next ordinance survey map was completed.

The other MP for St. George's South the Hon. Sydney Stallard also welcomed the induction of this property into the National Parks scheme. But he warned that the area, which was frequently littered, would need "a lot of care and attention.'' "I hope it will not be left as a derelict area as Daniel's Head has been,'' he said.

Noting that St. David's had a number of protected areas, Mr. Stallard said he would like to see the west end area of St. David's purchased by Government as open space.
