St. George's man ordered off road
further two years after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified twice in the same day.
Lavince Ellis, 25, of Narrow Lane, also received a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years for the offences which took place on November 19.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told Magistrates' Court that Ellis was first caught by officers riding an auxiliary cycle on North Shore Road, Smith's Parish, at 7.45 a.m. and then again on Kindley Field Road, St.
George's at 8.20 p.m.
Sgt. Taylor added that Ellis had been disqualified from driving all motor vehicles for two years back in December 1996, but failed to obey the court's order.
And in March of this year, he was taken off the road for a further 12 months for driving while impaired.
When asked by Senior Magistrate Will Francis why he continued to drive, Ellis replied: "I was under the assumption that when I got taken off the road initially it was only for the class of cycle I was riding at the time, only 80 cc cycles.'' Ellis will be lawfully able to drive again in December 2001.
DRIVER RECEIVES $450 FINE, BAN CTS Driver receives $450 fine, ban An elderly Pembroke man on Wednesday pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
Walter Leon Harris, 65, of Dundonald Street, admitted to the offence which took place in Paget on November 4.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told the court that around 5.25 p.m. Police officers attended the scene of a road traffic accident at the junction of Middle Road and Ord Road.
Sgt. Taylor added that the accident occurred when a car which had stopped to turn onto Ord Road was hit from behind by Harris' car.
Police officers noticed that Harris' breath smelled of alcohol and he was unsteady on his feet.
He was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and taken to the Hamilton Police Station where a breath test revealed he had at least 199 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

WARWICK MAN STOLE CHEQUE CTS Warwick man stole cheque A Warwick man on Wednesday appeared in Magistrates' Court for stealing a cheque and fraudulently using it.
Earl Smith, 20, of Smith's Avenue, admitted to the offences which took place between October 11 and 12.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told the court that Smith stole the Bank of N.T. Butterfield cheque from his cousin, Stephen Adams, while visiting his Pembroke home on the evening of October 11.
Smith then tried to buy two packages of cigarettes at the Esso City Automart with the stolen cheque.
Sgt. Taylor said a cashier called Police as she suspected the cheque had been stolen.
When the Police arrived they spoke with Smith who said he received the $150 cheque for working on his cousin's car.
But Smith was arrested and taken to the Hamilton Police Station where he admitted stealing the cheque the night before.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis ordered a social inquiry report to be carried out on Smith who is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on January 14.
