Status register made public
The Bermudian Status by Birth or Grant Register can be viewed at post offices and the Immigration Department until January 19, 1996.
It is a list of those registered to vote in any of the years, 1989-1992. And it includes the 3,866 people added to the roll since then.
Excluded are non-Bermudians registered as electors on May 1, 1976, as permitted at the time.
Co-Assistant Chief Immigration Officer Dr. Martin Brewer explained: "We've been updating the register as we go on. It gets changed daily.'' Dr. Brewer said a 2,017-strong list of those who had died was at the back of the register.
This would help those wanting to get on the register prove they had Bermudian parents.
Dr. Brewer said several draft copies of the register had been displayed before the final one was produced.
The draft copies enabled people to raise objections and correct misspellings.
There had been very few claims that people on the list were not Bermudian, said Dr. Brewer.
"I think all those challenged proved they had status.'' Dr. Brewer said the Immigration Department wanted to see the register displayed on an annual basis.
"We are hoping shortly to have it available on computer terminal at the department.'' Anyone with objections to the list should fill in a form available at the Immigration Department.
This should be sent to the Chief Immigration Officer.
