Stolen cash used to buy cocaine

Stanley Ronald Davis, of Cedar Avenue, appeared in Magistrates' Court charged with breaking and entering a Joells Alley home and stealing an ATM card and some cash.
Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told the court when the residents of the Pembroke home awoke to find Davis at the foot of their bed, he ran off.
"Davis stole an ATM card from the pocket of a pair of pants in the room but later discarded it,'' said Insp. Duffy.
"He also stole cash from a handbag in the kitchen.'' Davis told the Police he used the money to buy cocaine.
Duty counsel Mr. Kiernan Bell said Davis had been looking at a local drug rehabilitation programme and would prefer that to incarceration.
Davis was remanded in custody for a social inquiry report.
He will appear again in court on July 21.
MUSICAL COURSE TO BE CONDUCTED ED Musical course to be conducted The Menuhin Foundation is to hold a one-day orchestra course.
The course, which is open to adults and students grade four standard and above, follows the same format as the very successful one-day course held last year.
Applications are invited from string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players.
There will be no limitation on numbers.
The conductor will be Mr. Warren Jones, who is an experienced and highly respected musician on the Island, and the music will be interesting and varied.
The cost of the course, which will be held at Gilbert Institute Primary on Saturday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., is $20.

RIDER HURT IN ACCIDENT ARRESTED CRM Rider hurt in accident arrested A 33-year-old Sandys Parish man who was later arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, injured his hand and foot in a road traffic accident last week.
Police found a damaged motor bike on Malabar Road, Sandys Parish, following a report of a road accident.
They found the driver nearby suffering from injuries to his head and foot. A Police spokesman said the man displayed signs of alcoholic impairment and was arrested. He is likely to appear in Magistrates' Court shortly.

A 46-year-old Pembroke man stopped for a traffic matter was arrested following a search conducted under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
In a separate incident, Police narcotics officers on routine patrol near Khyber Pass, Warwick, arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of possession of drugs and drugs equipment.
Both men will appear in Magistrates' Court in due course.
HELP AT HAND FOR CHOOSING COLLEGE EDC Help at hand for choosing college Parents and students trying to choose a university now have a new helping hand in Bermuda in the shape of former students of the University of Hartford.
About 15 former graduates met last week to inaugurate the Bermuda Chapter of the Alumni Association of the University, which has proved popular with Islanders as a place to study.
Director of the Alumni Relations, Mr. Nicholas Zaharias, joined a lunch with the former students to set up the Chapter.
"The alumni will get together for functions, donate to the university and help give advice to parents and prospective students and hopefully get more students for us,'' he said.
