student representation on the school's Board of Trustees.

Odia Vassell, who graduates at the end of the semester, made the announcement after leading a team of negotiators against the College's management team in defence of a faculty member who was due to be made redundant.

That faculty member, the associate manager for recreational and sports programmes and facilities, Norbert Simons, was due to be made redundant on April 30.

The successful negotiations delayed Mr. Simons' departure until the end of the semester with the possibility of a future post with the college.

Ms Vassell said the incident had highlighted problems within the College.

"One of the principals problems is that there is no student representative on the Board of Trustees at this college,'' she said. Ms Vassell said she would be approaching Education Minister Jerome Dill about amending the Bermuda College Act to allow for a student representative.

Her opinion was backed by college vice-president Donald Peters.

He said: "The students should be involved on the board so they can understand how the decision making process works''.
