Swan addition gets go-ahead

THEFTS DENIED CTS Three pharmacy employees pleaded not guilty to theft charges when they appeared in Magistrates' Court this week.

Sherriera J. Harvey, 37, Sonia McCaskie, 32, and Rose Wrightson, 38, are accused of stealing items from the Hamilton Pharmacy.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis charged Harvey, an American, with stealing $10 cash and goods worth $27.

McCaskie is charged with stealing a bottle of Clorox bleach worth $2.90.

Wrightson, a Canadian, denied stealing goods worth $11.05.

All offences are alleged to have taken place on January 29 this year.

Mr. Francis bailed each woman in the sum of $300, and set the matter down for trial on May 9.

NEW CHARGES LAID CTS Two Sandys men accused of assaulting Somerset Police officers heard new charges of assault and escape laid against them in Magistrates' Court this week.

Kyle Dexter Baxter, 18, and Levie Eugene Robinson, 27, were not required to enter pleas to assaulting Police officers Dean Stanford and Pythagoras Santiago and causing them grievous bodily harm on March 12 in Sandys.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis also charged Robinson with escaping custody the same day, and Baxter with aiding Robinson.

Previous charges of assault with intent to do bodily harm to the officers were withdrawn by Crown Counsel Mr. Melvin Douglas.

Mr. Francis bailed both men for $1,000 with a like surety and set the matter for mention on May 27.

WOMAN STABLE HTH The condition of a woman who was rescued from strangulation on Tuesday has improved, Hospital spokesmen said last night.

The woman, 32, was rescued by a group of men after they spotted her on a boat moored in Mills Creek with a rope around her neck.

She was rushed to Hospital where she was listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

On Wednesday, she was taken off a ventilator by doctors and was reported to be "breathing on her own.'' Her condition was listed as stable. She remains in the ICU.

THIEVES HIT SCHOOL CRM A VCR, compact disc player and television set were stolen from Harrington Sound School on Monday night by thieves who climbed through an insecure window.

Police are investigating the break-in, and are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity near the school on Monday night or early Tuesday morning to call Central CID at 295-0011.

MEDICAL EXCUSE CTS Saying he used cannabis for medicinal purposes failed to save an American visitor from a hefty fine in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Customs officials found 5.7 grams of the drug in a sneaker in Joseph Stracuzzi's luggage during an Airport search on April 21.

The 34-year-old admitted possessing the drug, which he said he used to control his seizures. He also apologised to the court.
