Court yesterday for failing to display their liquor licences.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor told the court Police officers had entered Romanoff Restaurant, on Church Street, just before 10 p.m. on April 8 and asked the owner to see a copy of the renewed liquor licence.

Anton Duzevic told them he had "simply forgot to pick it up'' from Magistrates' Court, Sgt Taylor said.

Sgt. Taylor added that it appeared that patrons of the restaurant were consuming alcohol.

Due to the financial difficulty of the restaurant, Senior Magistrate Will Francis gave Duzevic a 12-month conditional discharge.

Manager of the Waterloo House Andrew Trinder was also charged with the same offence.

Sgt. Taylor reported that at about 10.30 p.m. officers entered the restaurant and requested to see its renewed liquor licence.

But Trinder was unable to produce one as it had not yet been picked up.

Mr. Francis also sentenced Trinder to a 12-month conditional discharge.

Nello Ragione of Monte Carlo was the other proprietor to appear in court for failing to display the restaurant's liquor licence.

He also received a 12-month conditional discharge.

Mr. Francis said he hoped that this would be "a wake up call to every restaurant and night club that Police are tightening up on the right to serve alcohol beverages''.
