Project Directory Recycle provides an environmentally responsible method of disposing of the thousands of old telephone books which are updated yearly.

The effort between BTC, the Corporation of Hamilton, the Ministry of Works and Engineering and The Island Press turns the old books into animal bedding.

It began as a pilot project in 1997 with the City of Hamilton and was extended a year later to include the Island's primary schools.

This year's directory pick-up will take place on May 27 and 28. The Island's primary school students will also be asked to bring their directories from home starting May 31.

Works and Engineering will provide recycling bags.
