counterfeit notes around the Island.

The Police Commercial Crime Department confirmed yesterday that a 19-year-old Devonshire man and an 18-year-old Warwick woman were assisting Police with their inquiries at Hamilton Police Station on Wednesday evening.

The investigation is still ongoing and both people have been bailed to reappear at the station at a later date.

Police had received a total of 27 counterfeit dollar bills worth $1,395 from various stores and banks across the Island as of yesterday.

The bills, consisting of two $100, 21 $50 and 2 $20 Bermudian notes plus a US $100 and US $5 note first began appearing last Friday.

It is believed that more notes could still come to light and Police spokeswoman Evelyn James-Barnett yesterday urged all shopkeepers and customers to remain on their guard when making financial transactions.

Of the Bermudian bills, the three denominations are all thought to have replica serial numbers.

The forged $100 bill can be recognised by the serial number C/1 042686, the fake $50 has the serial number C/1 262927 and the $20 bill has the serial number B/2 910100.
