UBP row flares up

second time yesterday, after a 24-hour truce between the Tourism Minister and the UBP party treasurer broke down during a caucus meeting.

Each man felt the other had undermined the pact Sir John brokered between the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge and Mr. Roger Davidson during a long meeting on Wednesday, sources said.

The dispute stemmed from a comment by Mr. Woolridge last summer about "little white boys who don't mind a black man being in charge as long as they can tell him what to do''.

At the end of yesterday's UBP caucus meeting, Mr. Woolridge objected to a statement by Mr. Davidson that the Tourism Minister had "apologised''.

Mr. Davidson complained that, after the pact was reached, Mr. Woolridge continued the argument through his lawyer Mr. Julian Hall MP.

Last night the Premier said it was clear confusion remained and reiterated the wording the two men agreed upon Wednesday: "After a considerable amount of discussion...it was concluded that there had been a grave misunderstanding. Further, Mr. Woolridge stated that if in any way his remarks were interpreted as being directed at Mr. Davidson then he was sorry.'' "I trust this will now end this issue,'' the Premier said.
