A verdict is expected in the trial of Shree Candace Cannonier tomorrow.

Cannonier, 27, is charged with unlawfully wounding Nina Jacobs.

The jury heard closing arguments from prosector Charmaine Burgess and defence attorney Victoria Pearman yesterday.

Cannonier allegedly smashed a glass in the face of Ms Jacobs in the early hours of May 27 last year in Docksiders bar.

The two women were involved in a love triangle with a man named Kenneth Maybury.

Ms Jacobs, who has a two-year-old daughter with Mr. Maybury, continued to have an open relationship with him after the two broke off their engagement.

Mr. Maybury also became involved with Shree Cannonier and there were several incidents of the two women appearing at each other's homes.

However, in the incident which lead to trial, Cannonier allegedly hit Ms.

Jacobs with a glass after Ms. Jacobs approached her in Docksiders and made a reference to recently having sex with Mr. Maybury.

In her closing arguments, Ms Pearman argued that her client had been acting in the context of a scuffle and not with intent to harm Ms Jacobs.

Ms Pearman argued that in that context, Ms Jacob's injury was an accident.

"She stood firm and told her story, embarassing though it may be,'' said Ms Pearman. "You may have thoughts about still having a relationship with a man in a relationship with someone else but you can't judge her on that. You must judge her on the evidence and its importance to the law. If you do you must find my client not guilty.'' But prosecutor Charmaine Burgess said it was clear that Ms Jacobs sustained the injuries, therefore the main issue for the jury was one of intent.

She said the jury must look at the evidence and testimony given for gaps in the story and then infer intent. "This evidence might also assist you in determining who is obsessed and with what relationship,'' she added.

"We say Ms Cannonier intentionally hit Ms Jacobs with that glass not in the course of a scuffle or flailing about,'' she said. "She hit her with the glass, and she says so, to get her off of her.''
