Warning over travel offers
Police warned yesterday.
Now fraud squad officers are probing the offer, which has been posted to homes across the Island.
The `certificate of entitlement' promises an eight-day Florida and Caribbean cruise, including visits to Orlando, Florida, Daytona Beach and the Bahamas, as part of a promotion by a cruise line.
But the offer is conditional on callers to a toll-free line giving credit card details.
But yesterday Police spokeswoman Roseanda Jones warned: "People shouldn't give their credit card numbers out over the phone like this.
"Our concern is that some people will reveal their credit card number and all that will happen is that the Bermudian credit card number will be taken and issued to someone else.
"All people will be doing is winning themselves a lot of aggravation when they go to use their credit card and find it's over the limit.'' The offer -- from a company said to be based in Florida -- was traced by fraud squad officers to an empty hotel room in Canada.
A message gives another number to call and asks for credit card details, warning delay will mean losing the holiday.
Inspector Jones said: "There is a problem with credit card fraud all over the world at the moment and this kind of thing just perpetuates that.''
