Woman charged after false assault claim

A woman who claimed she had been sexually assaulted last weekend is to appear in Magistrates Court accused of fabricating her story.

The 43-year-old Pembroke woman told Police she was attacked in Bullshead Car Park in Hamilton at about 5.45 p.m. last Saturday as she made her way back to her car following a shopping trip.

She claimed she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted, receiving a bump on her head and her clothes being ripped.

The incident was not reported to Police until very early on Sunday morning after the woman claimed she had been so terrified by her ordeal, she had waited for hours in her car before driving to a relative's house and calling for help.

Subsequent investigations by Police led officers to believe that the claims were false. As a result, court proceedings are now pending.

And in a separate incident, Police have also decided to take no further action following a complaint of a serious sexual assault at about 5 a.m. last Sunday.

The attack was alleged to have taken place following a party at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute in Hamilton.

Again, Police investigations revealed there were no offences committed, and no further action is anticipated.
