Woman charged with stealing clothes
daughter's new clothes continued in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Lisa Stephanie Smith, 38, of Barrack's Hill, was charged with stealing $36 worth of clothes from Det. Sgt. Stuart Crockwell on April 22 in St. George's.
Det. Sgt. Crockwell told the court that he bought the clothes for his daughter from the English Sports Shop in St. George's while he was off duty. He testified that he then went to the Bermuda Railway store where he put the bag containing the new clothes on the floor as he entered.
When he arrived Smith was inside the store talking to a shop assistant. When he turned to leave the store his bag was gone and so was Smith.
All that was left were the price tags from the goods.
He said he left the store and headed for St. George's Police Station and saw Smith riding a scooter with an English Sports Shop bag in the cycle's rear basket.
He shouted at her to stop but she kept going so he grabbed the cycle's basket and stopped the scooter. He took Smith to the Police station where she gave a statement.
Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp adjourned the trial until January 19 when Smith will take the stand.
