A Puerto Rican national yesterday admitted in Supreme Court to importing nearly $100,000 worth of cannabis to Bermuda on or about January 19.
Lawyer Mr. Ian Kawaley asked for a social inquiry report for Ariel Rivera-Ruiz, 24.
Chief Justice the Hon. Mr. Justice Ward, presiding over the monthly arraignments yesterday, agreed and ordered Rivera-Ruiz, on remand at Casemates, to appear for sentencing on May 2.
The total amount of marijuana smuggled into the Island was 1.99 kilogrammes, Crown counsel Mr. Brian Calhoun said.
In a separate case, a 35-year-old man pleaded not guilty to unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual assault of a girl under the age of 14 in Bermuda between last September 1 and December 31.
His bail was extended to May 2 when a trial date will be set down.
A May 2 mention date was set down for Veronica Leslene Dill, who has denied attempting to murder Graham Stancliffe, 35 of North Shore Road on October 13 1993.
She has also pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to burn and arson.
Lawyer Ms Paula Nielson said Dill had undergone psychiatric reports and may be unfit to plead at that time.
Mr. Justice Ward remarked she had smiled at him and seemed okay.
A July 11 trial date was set down for Hamilton Parish brothers Goodwin and Duval Spencer who have denied a Mace attack on staff at the hospital's Emergency Department last November. The brothers, represented by Mr. Richard Hector, had their bail extended.
