Absent-minded visitor fined for drugs
after he inadvertently imported a small amount of cannabis.
Edward Whitehorn, 33, arrived at Bermuda International Airport on May 22 and was selected by customs agents to be searched.
A clear plastic bag containing 0.69 grams of cannabis was found in the pocket of a pair of jeans and Whitehorn was arrested and later charged.
Addressing the court, Whitehorn apologised and told Acting Senior Magistrate, Edward King that he had been at a party several days before leaving for Bermuda and had smoked a "spliff''. he said the leftover cannabis was put in his jeans pocket which were then packed to come to Bermuda.
Mr. King told Whitehorn that the maximum penalty for the offence was a fine of $1,000 or 12 months in prison, or both.
He then fined Whitehorn $250 and told him it was a 75 percent sale.
Whitehorn was also told to pay the fine forthwith as he is leaving the Island tomorrow.
