Local charity organisers contacted Police regarding the unauthorised door-knockers who were claiming to be collecting money for a number of local charities.

While Police declined to name the particular charities being targeted they issued a statement saying the collectors were "bogus''.

The public was advised to check credentials of any one calling at houses around the neighbourhood and if any doubt remained then residents should contact the charity concerned.
