Alleged beating victim denies assault charges
The man who was allegedly beaten by Police outside Hamilton Police Station yesterday pleaded not guilty to five charges of assault and doing bodily harm.
Kimani Fubler, his right arm in a sling and plaster cast and his face swollen, was freed on $1,000 bail to return to Magistrates' Court for mention on February 9.
Fubler, 23, of Shelton Road, Pembroke, also denied assaulting a Police officer and violently resisting arrest. And he pleaded not guilty to assaulting Georgette Liburd and Valerie Hunt, and causing grievous bodily harm to Jeananne Liburd.
The assaults on the women are alleged to have taken place inside Champion Sports club.
Fubler was represented by lawyer Patricia Harvey and only said "not guilty'' to each of the five charges.
The Royal Gazette reported on Saturday an eyewitness account of the beating outside the Hamilton Police Station at 4 a.m. on January 1.
Eyewitness Lisa James claimed that ten officers beat and stomped Fubler following his arrest. It is not known if Fubler will file a complaint.
More than a dozen of Fubler's family and friends watched the morning's proceedings.
