The move comes after an incident on Saturday afternoon near the tennis courts of the Southampton Princess Hotel.

Both the victim and the dog's owner were attending a gymnastics competition. A St. George's man told Police that he was bitten by the dog as he prepared to leave the event.

The dog's owner had removed the leash from the dog earlier and was allegedly forced to shout at the dog to regain control.

The victim suffered several puncture wounds and attended the hospital for treatment. The incident is the latest in a series which has fuelled demands for tough laws to combat dangerous dogs.

Home Affairs Minister Quinton Edness revealed last month that Government was considering introducing hardline Canadian-style legislation which requires dogs deemed dangerous to be muzzled and on a leash in public areas.
