Gerald Outerbridge, of Channel View Lane, admitted to stealing the items from Shelly Bay MarketPlace.

Police prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told the court that on March 23, Outerbridge picked up two Elephant Beers and two bottles of rum from the supermarket.

Outerbridge paid for the beers, Insp. Duffy said, but did not pay for the rum.

He became irate when questioned by an employee, and the Police were called.

A Police officer found Outerbridge on the nearby railway trail shortly after the incident, and questioned him about the theft, Insp. Duffy said.

The two bottles of rum were also found in the trees around the railway trail and Outerbridge was later charged at Hamilton Police Station.
