Armed robbery sparks security review
after attacking a Four Star Pizza employee.
Two men made off with the money, after one hit a teenage employee of Four Star Pizza in Flatts, on the helmet he was wearing with a machete.
The raid happened early yesterday as the 19-year-old was leaving the restaurant, after locking up for the night.
And now management at Four Star Pizza, who have branches across the Island, are to review security procedures in light of the incident for the safety of staff.
A Police spokesman said the staff member was walking toward his livery cycle at 12.30 a.m., when two men approached, one of whom was holding a machete, and demanded money.
"One of the males held a machete and demanded money repeatedly in a threatening manner, while waving the machete around. The victim continued to deny that he had any and was subsequently hit on his helmet with the weapon.'' The teenager was not injured.
Fearing for his safety he then handed over a quantity of cash to the two men, who then escaped along North Shore Road, Smith's.
Yesterday, Four Star Pizza president Marico Thomas said his employee was not injured in the attack and was expected back at work last night.
He said the teenager had locking up responsibilities but stressed that the incident could have happened to "just about anyone''.
He said they would be "revisiting'' their security arrangements as a result of the robbery.
"It is important that we look at all of our operations and make sure this type of element is kept away,'' he said. "We want to make sure this doesn't happen again.'' And he said there had been many messages of support from the community as the hunt for the robbers continued.
The first male, who was armed with the machete, is described as five feet, nine inches, of slim build with dark brown skin. He wore a faded orange top with long sleeves and blue jeans.
The other assailant was five feet, 11 inches to six feet tall, of slim build and with a large round head. He wore a moustache, dark clothing, a long-sleeved collarless shirt and casual pants. The outfit was completed by white socks and a pair of old sneakers.
