Some 462,849 visitors arrived here between January 1 and October 3 -- an 11.3 percent rise on the same period last year.

Of these, 328,866 came by air, which is 9.7 percent up on 1992.

The number of cruise ship passengers over this period shot up by 15.6 percent to 133,474.

For the week, September 26-October 3, there was a 21.7 percent rise in visitors compared to 1992.

The numbers went up from 12,583 to 15,316.

Occupancy levels on cruise ships remained high, with the Horizon's topping the list at 99.34 percent.

The other percentage levels were: Song of America , 99.22; Meridian , 95.36; Dreamward , 83.23; and Sagafjord , 79.28.
