AS&K takes on two new partners

Senior partner John Campbell told The Royal Gazette : "Michael and Tim have worked very hard for this. They are both fine professionals and, in their new role, will further enhance our strengths as a well-rounded and dynamic partnership.'' It brings to 18 the number of resident partners in Bermuda, AS&K director of marketing Roberta Montafia said yesterday. There are two in Hong Kong.
A leading Bermuda firm, AS&K also has 29 associate lawyers, part of a total staff of 270 employees, including 12 personnel in the Hong Kong office.
Mr. Counsell joined AS&K in 1990 after obtaining a Masters in microbiology and immunology from Trent University and his law degree at the University of Western Ontario, both in Ontario, Canada.
Elected to the Bermuda Bar Council in 1995, he has chaired three sub-committees and is now practising corporate law related to aviation and shipping.
Mr. Burns joined AS&K in 1992, having worked in the banking industry in Canada as a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers. He began his law career as a law clerk to the Justices of the Federal Court of Canada and later practised with the Canadian firm of McCarthy T metrault.
He obtained an MBA from Nova Scotia's Dalhousie University and his Master of Law degree from the University of Cambridge, England.
A member of AS&K's insurance team and intellectual property, information technology and entertainment team, he currently serves as secretary to the legislative change committee of the Bermuda International Business Association.
