left a 21-year-old man with a broken nose.

The man, who is living on the USNAS base but is not believed to be a member of the Navy personnel, was hit in the face with a crash helmet during an argument with another man.

The assault happened on North Shore Road, Devonshire.

Several break-ins from the weekend are also being investigated. In one, thieves got into a Warwick church and stole a large amount of food.

In another, at the Whaler Inn, raiders smashed a glass door to the tennis shop and got away with $180.

TRESPASSERS FINED CTS Trespassers fined Two men found by Police at a notorious drug hangout were fined $50 each in Magistrates' Court.

Prosecutor, Insp. Peter Duffy said Lang Onley, 33, and Gary E. Peniston, 37, were discovered at the "incubator'', an abandoned building in Long Ridge Pass, Devonshire.

Signs forbidding trespassers were on the entrances and exits, he said. Onley, of Radnor Road, Hamilton Parish, and Peniston, of Peet Point Lane, Smith's, admitted trespassing on land belonging to Henry Cox.

Peniston told the court: "I was visiting the area and I didn't know I was trespassing. I was having a conversation with my boy.'' Onley agreed. "We were just talking,'' he said.

OFF THE ROAD CTS Off the road A drunk driver was fined $400 and ordered off the road for 12 months in Magistrates' Court this week.

Mario George DeFrias, 27, of Convict Bay Lane, St. George's, pleaded guilty to impaired driving on Kindley Field Road shortly before 3 a.m. on December 16.

Prosecuting, Police Insp. Peter Duffy said officers following DeFrias' car noticed it weaving and occasionally travelling on the wrong side of the road.

Once stopped by Police, DeFrias had trouble getting out of the car, leaned against it for support, and smelled strongly of alcohol, he said.

The lowest breathalyser reading DeFrias gave was 132 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.

AIRPORT ARRIVALS TOU Airport arrivals The number of visitors arriving at Bermuda Airport continues to fluctuate after the usual Christmas rush.

Visitors arriving last week totalled 1,898 which is 128 down on the corresponding week in 1992.

However, figures for the whole month are still 563 higher than January of last year.

Although the figures are considered only a rough guide to the performance of the tourism industry, there are still no signs of any major boost in numbers arriving on the Island.
