Lawyer Mr. Saul Froomkin confirmed last night that "a number'' of the 21 non-Bermudian officers affected by the cuts had hired him.

And he said he was waiting to hear from the Attorney General before taking further action.

"I will sue (Government) if instructed,'' he said.

The officers' case centres around "the fact their (five-year) contracts were not renewed based on certain premises.'' Faced with Government Budget cutbacks, Police Commissioner Mr. Lenny Edwards gave the 21 British and West Indian officers the bad news in March.

Mr. Edwards said he was aware of the action and that Home Affairs Minister the Hon. Sir John Sharpe and the Deputy Governor had since become involved. He did not know how many of the officers had retained Mr. Froomkin, saying he believed it was a "fair number''.
